Growing up, I had a fixed idea of where I’d be at 30—the car I’d drive, the house I’d live in, and the perfect family I always longed for. Ambition is great, but without direction and action, dreams remain distant. As a teen, I spent more time “chilling” and indulging in mindless habits rather than pursuing my goals. My weekends were filled with fleeting pleasures that, in hindsight, should have been spent more productively.
Oh, and just for an update—I’m not living the dream life I imagined!
That being said, I’ve now hit 30 and believe I’ve unlocked my superpowers to live an even greater life. Here are some practical tips to help you discover your inner strengths and start living the life you deserve.
Tip 1: Feed Your Body to Feed Your Mind
In today’s world, everyone is obsessed with aesthetics—how we look, how others look, and even the appearance of our food and homes. While looking good and having a pleasant environment is important, focusing on internal well-being allows everything else to follow naturally. Eating nutrient-rich foods to fuel our bodies gives your mind the advantage it needs to push limits. By nourishing your body from the inside out, you create a strong foundation for mental and physical health, which naturally enhances your outer appearance and surroundings.
Tip 2: Push Your Limits
Just as fueling your body with the right nutrients is crucial, regularly pushing your body to its limits is essential for transforming your mindset and outlook on life. Stepping out of your comfort zone reveals new opportunities. Life is only limited by the mindset we maintain. If you want bigger results, you need to start pushing yourself beyond your perceived limits.
Tip 3: Learn How to Parent Yourself
How we care for ourselves reflects our self-love. I lacked this during childhood and had to learn to navigate life independently. It wasn’t until I had my own child that I truly understood self-care. My immense effort to ensure my child is loved, cared for, and nourished made me realise something important. I do this because I adore him and want him to learn to love and care for himself so he can flourish, maximising his potential.
Teaching myself to nurture and love myself similarly has been challenging, but I know it will be rewarding. Simple acts like setting aside time for pampering, maintaining a balanced diet, exercising, and practising mindfulness are steps toward self-care. The love and care you show yourself will set a powerful example for your children and help you to thrive.
Tip 4: Stay Present
It’s easy to dwell on the past and worry about the future, but this is time not worth wasting. The past is gone, and the future is a mystery. To enjoy a fulfilling life, focus on the present. The time we spend now has the biggest impact on our future selves. Being present helps us make the most of each moment. Redirect the energy you’re wasting on what you can’t control and focus on what you can. Practice mindfulness set daily intentions, and appreciate the little things around you. These small steps can make a big difference in your overall well-being and happiness.
Tip 5: Stop Caring, Start Living
We often spend too much time concerned about what others think. In school, we strive to fit in, and in the workplace, we adjust our behaviour to please others. One day I decided enough is enough—I will no longer live based on others’ opinions, and I don’t care if being my authentic self upsets anyone. Our uniqueness is our greatest asset, and we must embrace it to achieve true success. To start living your best life, focus on what makes you happy, set boundaries, and practice self-acceptance. Remember, your value isn’t determined by others’ perceptions but by your self-worth.
I believe turning 30 has been a transformative journey of self-discovery and growth. While my earlier expectations may not have materialised exactly as envisioned, I’ve come to realise that true fulfilment lies in embracing the present moment, leveraging my experiences, and continuously striving towards personal and professional success. With these insights and practical tips, I hope you too can navigate your thirties with confidence, resilience, and a renewed sense of purpose.
Here’s to embracing the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead, and to living a life that reflects our innermost aspirations.
CHEERS TO THAT!
